customer feedback contest

The customer feedback page on the website has been really neglected.  I plan to update it soon and thought a little contest would be a fun way to get the project started.
Email with your feedback on a {simple starfish} jewelry piece that you have purchased or received.  Include a photo for major bonus points!

Anyone picked to be included on the customer feedback page will receive a 20% off coupon! And one winner will receive a $25 off coupon code!

Christmas mantle 2011

I usually love to decorate the mantle and spend some time thinking about how I want it to look.  This year, I literally took what I already had and threw it up there.  Added some lights and some fresh greens from the backyard and that was it.

the Christmas spirit

I feel like a Christmas elf.  I've been working non-stop in my studio...cutting, sanding, stamping, polishing and packaging.  Sending out gifts all around the world!  It's really such a rewarding feeling knowing that I am spreading cheer.

We just returned from a fabulous trip which really put us into the Christmas spirit.  We even had a ride aboard The Polar Express and went to the North Pole.  Santa was there of course as well as real polar bears and ice mountains.  My littliest starfish told us that it was definitely the real Santa since we were at The North Pole.

Today was the cut off date for Christmas ordering so I hope you got your order in.  If not, we have gift cards available and also gift certificates that are sent via email immediately after you order.

thanksgiving weekend picture collage

1.  As soon as turkey day was over, the Christmas decor came out!  We love Christmas and I often call my husband "Chris Kringle".  We are all decorated outside and inside.  More pictures to come on that.

2.  I'm trying to dig out from under the piles and piles of jewelry orders that I have already received for this holiday season.  I am so grateful to everyone who has ordered from me and feel so blessed to have this wonderful business which I adore and allows me to make such special pieces of cherished jewelry.

3.  Just a few of the Swarovski crystal and sterling silver earrings that I gave away free with every order received on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday.

4.  The kids' Thanksgiving art gallery had to come down to make room for holiday art.

5.  I have a huge collection of Department 56 Christmas in the City buildings.  They haven't really made it out of storage in years but this year my son discovered them and set up a few.  This is Pickford Place and it's such a charming building.  I'd love to move right in.

6.  The little letters initial collection necklace in the fancy script font.

Hope your long weekend was wonderful!

happy thanksgiving

Forever Thankful

Being forever thankful is what God wants from us
Never forgetting from where we came or His boundless saving love

All of heavens blessings poured down from heavens gates
Everything we have in life, He's given with extra grace

We need to always thank Him for this and so much more
Not only for tangible things but because He is our Lord

Thanksgiving is the key for His blessings to increase
If we've not got thankful hearts, His blessings soon will cease

Don't ever start complaining at what you may not have
Look around at what you see,  then be thankful and glad.

mr. turkey

I have made this turkey many times over the years!  Our school has a very strict policy on snacks and party food and there is very little that you can bring in.  I was looking for an idea years ago and came across this turkey made out of fruit in Family Fun magazine.  He is so cute and easy and the kids LOVE it!

His body is a melon.  His head is a pear.  His eyes are raisins.  You can use a carrot or a piece of cheese for his beak.  I usually add red and green feathers but with the piles of jewelry orders coming in, I just didn't have the time.  For the skewers, I used strawberries and grapes but you can add cheese, pineapple, really anything.  Oh, and his little feet are red peppers.  How cute is he?  Enjoy!

dad keychain

I have a few pieces in the {simple starfish} line dedicated to fathers.  And plans to add new designs in the future.  I call these dad keychains but they can really be customized for anyone.  I've made them for dads, grandpas, uncles, sons, teachers, coaches and even babysitters!

dad keychain - custom wording
dad keychain - hero, protector, fan, friend
Hint hint:  This is a really great teacher gift too!  Last Christmas I customized a few of them for teachers.  In the center, I stamped "teach" or the teachers initials and along the outer edge I stamped "Class of 2011".  A few parents chipped in and it made a unique and very special gift.

{simple starfish} giveaway and Willow House giveaway

I love to do giveaways!  It makes people so happy and it makes me happy too!  Back in April, I did a Spring Giveaway for a $50 off coupon and the winner was Heidi from Decor & More.  Heidi used her winnings to purchase the {relax} necklace with the {little starfish} earrings.

Obviously, Heidi and I both like starfish and she also has a love for beach inspired decor.  We thought it would be fun to combine forces and do a joint giveaway!  Yay!

Heidi sells Willow House products and here are a few of her specials that are going on right now.  So, how about a $25 gift certificate from Willow House?

And, how about a $25 off coupon code from {simple starfish}?

Ready to find out how to enter?
  1. Visit the {simple starfish} store and then come back here to the blog and leave a comment telling me what your favorite item is.  That is your first entry.
  2. Then pop over to Heidi's Willow House site and then to Heidi's blog and leave a comment there letting her know what your favorite product is.  You get one entry per comment, so that gives you two entries!
  3. Like the {simple starfish} Facebook page and come back and leave a comment here that you did for an extra entry.
  4. Like the Willow House with Heidi Milton Facebook page and come back and leave a comment that you did for another extra entry.
So, that makes FOUR possible entries!
Giveaway closes at 8pm EST on Sunday, November 20th.  The winner will be chosen by and posted on both blogs on Monday, November 21st.

Good Luck!

thanksgiving banner tutorial

Have you heard of Pinterest?  O. M. G.!!!!  I promise to do a post on it soon but warning...It's totally addicting!  While surfing around on Pinterest, I found so many adorable ideas for cute banners.  I felt so inspired that I decided to make my own but I needed to come up with something super cute, easy and fast.  I have realized over the years that I don't have the patience anymore for long, drawn out, tedious crafts.  It has to be quick and simple.  This is what I came up with.

There is a short list of items you need to make this.  Short and cheap!
  •  twine
  • mini clothespins
  • scrapbook paper
Seriously, that's it.  I started by making a stencil of a maple leaf.  You can do any type of leaf or use several types mixed together but as I said, I like simple and fast.

I made my stencil out of paper first and then transferred it onto cardboard.  Then, select the papers that you would like to use and trace your leaf stencil onto the paper.

Rather than purchasing individual scrapbook papers, I purchased one big pack that had various fall designs including Halloween patterns.  Great value and next year I can make another banner! When creating my stencil, I sized it so it would fit two leaves per page.

Cut the leaves out, clip them onto the twine and that's it.  I strung my twine across my fireplace but you could also put this on a staircase bannister, across a window frame, anywhere.

And the final result.

After cutting out the leaves, there were scraps left of these paper designs and they won't go to waste.  Details to come.

I would love to see your fall crafts!  Please post with links!

Welcome back!

Hello and welcome back to any and all {simple starfish} fans and blog readers!
I started this blog in 2008  (see my very first post below).  Unfortunately, the business took over all my time and the blog really started to suffer so I had put it on the back burner for awhile.  It's so fun to go back and read all the old posts and I really miss having a place to write down my thoughts, show new designs and give away free stuff!  So, it's time to give this blog a little makeover and update!

Over the next few weeks, months or maybe even years, I will be sprucing up the blog and transferring over the old posts.  Boy, it takes a lot of time to relabel posts and get them all organized.  So, you will see new (and old) posts popping up from time to time.

This is also the place that I will be having {simple starfish} giveaways!  The best and fastest way to find out about new giveaways and make sure you don't miss one is to follow this blog via email.  Just enter your email in the right hand sidebar and you will get new posts delivered right to your inbox.  You'll be the first to know when there is a new giveaway.

And {hint hint}, there is a new giveaway coming up very soon.....

cancer sucks period

The winner of my 1,000 Facebook fan giveaway was Janine Busala.  Although the necklace that Janine orginally won was the {bloom} necklace, she had contacted me about designing a different necklace.  You see, Janine is currently going through chemotherapy for breast cancer.  She really wanted a necklace that said "cancer sucks".  I offered to swap out the free {bloom} necklace for her desired necklace.  Together, we came up with this.  (We added the period after cancer sucks because cancer sucks period.)  Thanks Janine for your wonderful design ideas and inspiration on this necklace!
